NJHS membership and participation is open to 8th grade students at Hill Country Middle School. 7th graders may apply in the spring of their 7th grade year and, if accepted, will serve in NJHS in May 2016 and their 8th grade year at HCMS. Currently enrolled 8th graders are welcome to apply, but NJHS does not transfer to high school. 8th graders who are accepted into NJHS will only participate the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year at HCMS. Eligibility is based on grades, citizenship and character. To meet grades eligibility, students must show a 92.5 average for the SEMESTER 1 average for the 4 core courses. For purposes of calculating this average only, 5 points can be added to the Semester 1 average for Pre-AP core courses, and 10 points can be added to IPC Science and any other core course that counts as a high school credit course. Here's an example:
IPC Science 85 + 10 = 95
Pre-AP English 90 + 5 = 95
Math 93 = 93
Social Studies 97 = 97
95 + 95 + 93 + 97 = 380 / 4 = 95
The student's average of the 4 core is 92.5 or higher. He/She meets the grades eligibility requirement.
Interested students should complete the formal NJHS application no later than January 31st, 2018. The application should only be completed by the student, and he/she will be required to use the Eanes ISD Gmail login.
